Dutch Daylight Student Award

Dutch Daylight aims to bring industry, education and advisory institutes together and exchange their knowledge about daylight. In 2024, we launched the Dutch Daylight Student Award to strengthen the link with students who are passionate about daylight.
In the first edition of the DDSA, MSc and PhD students registered at Dutch higher education institutes (universities, HBO’s, art academies) and working on “something with daylight” were invited to show and share their research or design, to inspire others and have impact on the lighting profession. We welcomed fresh and innovative, out of the box ideas. Projects that contribute to the development of knowledge and awareness of daylight and its applications could be submitted in two categories: Daylight Research and Daylight Design.
The challenge was focused on smart daylight design. The submissions were judged by the committee of the regular Dutch Daylight Award based on the following criteria:
  • The novelty and smartness of the usage of or knowledge about daylight.
  • How other factors are considered in the design/research, such as artificial lighting, indoor climate, sustainability, architectural innovation.
  • How light(ing), context, users’ experiences and wellbeing are addressed in its full dynamics and system.
  • For design projects: the feasibility, desirability and viability of the design concept.
  • For research projects: the technical and methodological soundness of the research, and the knowledge contribution.
Now the DDSA is open for contributions from a wider pool of students, including BA, BSc, MSc and PhD programmes at Dutch institutions. Do you want to know more?
